Colorado Springs serves as the seat of El Paso County. The city is located about 60 miles south of Denver, housing a population of more than 465,000 residents. As the state’s largest city by area, Colorado Springs covers nearly 195 square miles of land.
The town of Fountain Colony was laid out in 1871, and within a year it was renamed Colorado Springs and officially incorporated. Today, the city is home to 24 national governing bodies of sport, including the United States Olympic Committee and USA Hockey. This has earned Colorado Springs the nickname, “Olympic City USA.” Colorado Springs boasts more than 50 well-known attractions, including Garden of the Gods, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The city enjoys an abundance of outdoor spaces, maintaining more than 150 parks and 200 miles of trails.
